Microsoft CEO confident Activision Blizzard deal will go through

“Let’s have competition”

Microsoft’s purchase of Activision Blizzard is still under scrutiny. But in a new interview with BloombergMicrosoft CEO Satya Nadella expresses confidence that the Activision Blizzard deal will be approved.

The UK Competition and Markets Authority is investigating the deal. After an initial phase, the regulator has opted for conduct a more in-depth “phase 2” investigation. The CMA is investigating whether the deal will have a realistic prospect of substantially lessening competition in the game.

Speaking to Bloomberg, Microsoft CEO Nadella says he is confident the company will win regulatory approval for the $69 billion acquisition.

“Of course, any acquisition of this size is going to come under scrutiny, but we feel very, very confident that we will pull through,” Nadella said.

The CEO also takes aim at Sony, which has made a series of acquisitions. “So if it’s about competition, let’s have competition,” says Nadella.

Tensions have been rising around the deal between Microsoft and Activision Blizzard. The potential merger has been under scrutiny since it was announced earlier this year, but recently both Xbox and PlayStation have approached it a bit more candidly.

Reports in circles that Microsoft had committed hold Obligations on PlayStation for “several more years” beyond the existing agreement. In a statement to GamesIndustry.bizPlayStation CEO Jim Ryan said the offer was “inadequate on many levels”.

In fact, Sony has been picking up several studios. The PlayStation maker has brought return developer Development House, the souls of the devil the creator of the new version Bluepoint, and destiny Bungie studio to name a few.

However, the size and scope of the ABK deal for Microsoft is huge. the last wait the deal will close in fiscal year 2023.
