Hello dear readers, and welcome to the SwitchArcade roundup for March 17, 2023. In today’s article, we have several more releases to watch as we close out the week. The most notable is the Bayonetta cleave Bayonetta Origins: Cherry and the Lost Demon, but there are a couple of other intriguing titles in the bunch as well. After that, we have a healthy list of new sales to review and a smaller list of discounts due to expire over the weekend. Come on!
New releases
Bayonetta Origins: Cherry and the Lost Demon ($59.99)
Hello, yes, it’s time for another one. Bayonetta game already. We wait a long time for bayonet 3and it was very good. Bayonetta Origins it’s a very different kind of game from the ones in the main series, of course. Less about combat style and more about solving puzzles and exploring. It feels like I’m channeling a bit of okami, but just a little. Don’t expect anything of that scale or depth from this. We will soon have a review of this unusual spin-off, but I think that Bayonetta fans will at least enjoy how it builds on lore.
Peppa Pig: World Adventures ($39.99)
Other Peppa Pig game from the folks at Outright Games. He creates some characters and goes on a world tour with Peppa, visiting various places around the world. Collect decorations for your house and meet all kinds of characters from the series. I imagine kids who love Peppa will have a good time with this, especially if they enjoyed the last game. It certainly looks well made and authentic to the brand, to say the least. The game isn’t aimed at an older guy like me, so that’s all I can say about it.
Keepers of the Flame ($11.99)
Another roguelite game, but with a few interesting twists to help it stand out. You play as a little llama, and your goal in each area is to collect enough llama power to light the bonfire that allows you to keep going. You can obtain it by various means, and the most reliable might be by fighting enemies. But the trick is that the power of the flames is also your health, so if you pour too much into the bonfire or just play poorly, you might find yourself in a bit of a bind. I’ll be reviewing this one in a few days so I’m looking forward to that.
Skin Squad ($6.99)
This is the dollar store star fox, and he’s surprisingly good with that in mind. A team of animal space pilots are doing some routine training in VR, which looks exactly like every ’80s homage game of the past few years. Things start to go a little ho-ho, and the danger soon becomes anything but virtual. You get six levels in total, with three levels of difficulty. It doesn’t take long to play, but it’s a good time while it lasts.
The Costume ($5.99)
Oh, you know, just me and the disguise. Go out, play some games. This is another Metroidvania-style game, and it doesn’t really stand out much. You play as an orphan who has been turned into a monster by a cursed mask, and as you gain new abilities, your form will become even more monstrous. It lasts a few hours and never takes off properly. Dare I say it? It is a bit boring. It’s really not a great place to be in a genre as competitive as this.
Off the Track ($4.39)
This is a first person platform game with thirty levels spread over five worlds. The idea of each stage is that you are jumping over the train carriages in very abstract settings. There’s a bit of chaos thanks to the game’s reliance on its physics model, which adds some spice to the proceedings. A strange one, but at least it’s cheap.
Quiz 4 All ($3.99)
The latest from Cooking & Publishing is just an old trivia game, no more, no less. I guess on the scale of things they post, this isn’t too bad. At least, you know, it has some kind of game. Up to four people can play locally. I wouldn’t spend four bucks on this, but there are worse things about this editor.
Labyrinth Runner – Horror Escape Survive Simulator ($4.99)
Another piece of junk from the new junk launchers in the eShop at GOGAME CONSOLE PUBLISHER, surely an idea house if ever there was one. It’s a garbage maze game, and surely you can find a better way to spend five bucks today.
Sales
(North America eShop, US pricing)
I guess the biggest news in today’s inbox is that Square Enix is having another sale, this time including some of their newer games like harvest, core of the crisisand Dio’s Field Chronicle. Go through that list and treat yourself to an RPG or two if you feel like it. There’s not much to do in the weekend outbox, but check it out too just in case.
